Kevin Painter in Dusseldorf for Euro Tour Event 6
Kev is back on the PDC tour for hopefully a long weekend of darts, as he qualified for the £100,000 European Tour event in Dusseldorf.
These £100,000 prize money events really offer great prize money, with £20,000 first prize on offer for the winner of the three day tournament. Kevin started his campaign against the very talented young Keegan Brown, so The Artist can’t take him lightly, as he’s many a top player scalp already.
Round 1: Kevin Painter 6-0 Keegan Brown
A fantastic result for Kev to kick things off, one potential banana-skin avoided without dropping a leg.
Round 2: Kevin Painter 6-2 Steve Beaton
Kev produced a very impressive display to oust ninth seed Steve Beaton. Both players shared the opening two legs before Painter won the next three to lead 4-1 which included an 11-dart-finish and a 126 finish, before going on to take two of the next three legs to close out the game. Into round 3 the Artist goes Saturday evening.
It’s Kevin’s birthday, and hopefully he will be rewarded with a win into Sunday’s fourth round. Kevin was one of the players of the tournament on Friday, and he knows his form is bang on at the moment, great timing before next week’s World Matchplay.
Round 3: Kevin Painter 6-2 Kim Huybrechts
The average didn’t reflect the dominance in this game – but Kev won’t care has his confidence builds as he goes into Sunday’s quarter final. Just 4 legs dropped in 3 games – awesome stuff.
Quarter final: Kevin Painter 6-2 Jamie Caven
Kev continues his great run, confidence building all the time – with another big 6-2 win against his friend Jabba, a 139 checkout to end the game. What great timing to have a long run, with less than 7 days until the Matchplay! Come on The Artist!!
Semi Final: Kevin Painter 5-6 Peter Wright
Peter Wright starts this game with a break against Kev, and then holds for 2-0. But then 3 legs on the trot as the Artist finds the form which has been so impressive this weekend. At 3-3, a fantastic 11 dart leg from the Artist to stay one leg ahead, averaging 106+ at that point. Quality darts. 5-4 to Kev and he’s still over 104 average, and he’s having to play both Snakebite and the crowd, the Germans always seem to love Snakebite and his hairstyles. Wright has to take out 121 to stay in the game with Kevin sitting on a finish. Unfortunately for Kev, Wright then hits 140, 140, 180, 41 to break and win in 11 darts.
The Artist can hold his head up high though – the level of his game was high throughout, and Peter had to pull a miracle leg out to beat him at the end.
