Gibraltar Darts Trophy European Tour Event Five
Round 1: Kevin Painter 6-3 Ronny Huybrechts
Round 2: Kevin Painter 6-1 Mensur Suljovic
From Official PDC site; Kevin Painter swept into the Gibraltar Darts Trophy third round with a 6-1 victory over Austria’s Mensur Suljovic. Painter took out 114 to win the opening leg, hit a 180 in the second and added another maximum and a 96 finish to lead 3-0. A pair of tops finishes moved him to the brink of victory at 5-0, although he would miss four match darts in the next as Suljovic avoided a whitewash by landing double two – but the relief was short-lived as Painter hit double 12 for a comfortable win.
Round 3: Kevin Painter 6-3 James Wade
From Official PDC site; Kevin took out 130 on the bull to take the opener, before Wade set up a possible nine-darter in the second, landing a 177 and a 180 before hitting the opening treble 20 of a 144 combination, but he missed the eighth dart of the finish, before returning to complete the leg and level. The next two were also shared, and though Wade hit a 180 in the fifth leg, Painter took out 64 to move 3-2 up before securing a key first break in the sixth by taking out 88 after Wade missed a dart at tops. Painter opened the seventh leg with a 180 before finishing double 16 for a 5-2 lead, and though Wade produced a sparkling 14-darter to keep his hopes alive – hitting a 171 and tops – the former Players Championship Finals winner sealed his quarter-final spot with a 117 checkout.
1/4 Finals: Kevin painter 5-6 Jamie Lewis
Kevin’s run in the tournament ends in the quarter finals against the Welsh sensation Jamie ‘Rasta’ Lewis.
