Tour Continues; German Darts Masters
The darts is coming thick and fast again for Kevin, and after last week’s player championship events in Barnsley, it was time to jump on a plain again for The Artist to take part in the next European Tour event; The German Darts Masters. Kevin has been drawn against the dangerous Belgium player Ronny Huybrechts, so he’ll have to start well in the first to six legs format.
In last weekend’s pro tour events, Kevin lost 6-2 to Connie Finnan, and on Sunday he beat Ricky Evans 6-1, then losing in a tight 6-5 game against the German Jyhan Artut.
German Darts Masters European Tour Event Seven
Friday September 20
Round 1: Kevin Painter 6-3 Ronny Huybrechts
A great start to the tournament, with The Artist averaging a strong 94.11 up on the big stage, taking out a huge 164 to help turn the game. Kevin hit ten 140’s and a 180 in his 6-3 win against a the very in form Belgium. The win see’s Kevin take on two time world champion Adrian Lewis on Saturday evening.
Round 2: Kevin Painter 6-5 Adrian Lewis
At 3-3 with throw, Kevin takes out 44 to break, at an important moment in the match. Back 2 back 140’s put Lewis in front, and he takes out madhouse to break back with Kev sat on tops. Lewis then holds, and Kevin needs to hold n break to win.. Kevin holds in a tight leg, and he gives himself a chance to win, and then starts with a big 180, follows up with 140, 134, and takes out 47 for an 11 darter! Lewis was sitting on 20 after 12 himself, so that’s a fantastic win.
Round 3: Kevin painter 6-1 Dave Chisnall
Kevin produced a classy performance to sweep aside German Darts Championship winner Dave Chisnall 6-1 and set up a quarter-final with Simon Whitlock. Painter opened the game with a 180 and took the opening leg with a 12-darter to break throw immediately, and traded maximums with Chisnall as he took the second on double eight, after his opponent missed the bull for a 170 finish. Chisnall opened the third with a 180, and took out double nine for a 14-darter to get off the mark, but paid for a miss at tops in the fourth as Painter landed double six for a 3-1 cushion. The pair again traded 180s in leg five as Painter took out 76 for an 11-darter, and he landed a 171 score in the next to leave 24, stepping in to finish double six after Chisnall was unable to finish double 13 to take out 81. Chisnall then missed double 16 to stay in the game in the seventh leg, as Painter hit double ten to complete a fine win, with both players ending the game with averages above 101.
1/4 Final: Kevin Painter 3-6 Simon Whitlock
1-0 – Whitlock lands double ten to hold throw in the opening leg.
1-1 – Painter levels by finishing 71 on double 16 for a 14-darter.
2-1 – Whitlock finishes double 18 for a 13-dart leg to regain the advantage.
3-1 – Painter misses double six to finish 126, and Whitlock takes out 112 on double 16 to break throw.
3-2 – Whitlock lands a 180, but misses four darts at doubles to win the leg, and Painter steps in to finish double 12 and break back.
4-2 – Painter scores 180 and 140, but misses a dart at double 16 to level as Whitlock follows up a 170 score with tops for a 13-darter.
5-2 – Whitlock opens with a 180 and has enough cushion to initially miss four doubles before returning to finish double five.
5-3 – Painter keeps his hopes alive by finishing 64 on double eight.
6-3 – Whitlock misses tops for a 117 finish to take victory, but Painter misses the same bed for a 106 checkout and the Australian returns to seal the win on double ten.
